Rebranding a well-known elected official for a new statewide role
Having served as a State Senator in Texas for 30 years, Secretary Jane Nelson is well known for her track record of public service. In her time as a Senator, Nelson also chaired the powerful Senate Finance Committee. After retiring, Nelson was appointed, and confirmed, to serve as Secretary of State. Given her background as an elected official with a known partisan affiliation, we wanted to emphasize Secretary Nelson’s commitment to fair and impartial public service without running away from track record of success, which has a partisan element to it. Having worked for then-Senator Nelson in her final re-election campaign, we were familiar with her branding, preferences, and desire to be seen as impartial and committed to all Texans regardless of background. That guided our efforts as we rebranded and repositioned Nelson for her new role as Texas Secretary of State.
Jane Nelson serves as the Texas Secretary of State and previously served in the Texas State Senate for 30 years.
